Our food pantry was opened in 2008 in response to Matthew 25:35-40. God calls us to help those in need. By loving others we also express our love for God. Many are in financial crisis right now, and by supplying something as simple as food, more money can be saved for bills, more time can be spent looking for a job and more peace can be provided.
How it Works
Our pantry is open on Tuesdays from 1pm-3pm and is run by volunteers. We receive food and monetary donations from members of the church as well as from a few local churches and organizations. People in need from the church and community receive food based on the number of people in their family. Currently we serve an average of 15 families per week with an average of 4-6 members in each family. Our hope is to be able to provide a week's worth of food for each family. Around holidays we try to provide a little more food, as well as small gifts.
How You Can Help?
Purchase non-perishable food items (click here for a shopping list) and/or organize a food drive in your school, business, scout troop, etc. You can also go to organizations and ask for donations of hygiene products such as toothpaste, shampoo, soap, etc. Please place all donated items in the wooden crates near room 139.
You can put cash or check in an offering envelope and mark it Food Pantry. Place it in the wooden boxes at the back of the sanctuary on a Sunday or drop it off at the front office during office hours. All donations will go towards purchasing food for those in need and are tax deductible.
Volunteers help purchase, organize and disperse food. Shoppers are needed to help purchase items using donated money. Also, pantry workers are needed for Tuesdays from 12:30 to 3:00 to help restock the shelves and hand out food to those in need. Training is provided. Please contact the church if you are interested in serving others in our church and community through the food pantry.
To those in need:
If you are going through a tough time financially and would benefit from use of our food pantry, please stop by between 1pm and 3pm on Tuesdays. No proof of residence, ID, or other documentation is currently required. We do have some forms for you to fill out, and we ask for complete honesty so we can serve you and everyone else in need. Thank you.
